Tennis Moncton League for Alzheimer’s

Tennis Moncton, in partnership with Tennis Canada, are excited to offer a new club singles tennis league right here at Tennis Moncton, with all proceeds donated to the New Brunswick Alzheimer’s Society.

Tennis Canada has developed the Tennis Canada Flex Ladders program and web platform, which we will use for this Tennis Moncton club league and which will be used to manage registrations, groupings, scores and      standings.

Tennis Canada is also promoting the use of the World Tennis Number (WTN) program, which uses match results to assign a genderless and ageless rating to

Every participating player. The WTN is a global rating scale that allows tennis players to find the right playing partner or program. Matches played in the Tennis Moncton for Alzheimer's League will automatically be fed to the WTN system and every player will be able to see their WTN evolve over time. For more information on the WTN, go to https://communitytennisleagues.com/itf-world-tennis-number

Who can play?

The league is open to all Tennis Moncton members or program participants of all levels who are 12 years or older. Players must also register with Tennis Canada to participate in the league. Players that do not already have Tennis Canada accounts can register for FREE by selecting the "Recreational" member type and completing the registration process.

How does it work?

This Box league will consist of several sessions, or rounds, of 3-5 weeks each over the course of the season.

We will start out as a singles league only, but may evolve to include a doubles league as well.

The league will initially be organized into three divisions (male and female players combined), based on self-rated skill level as described in the Tennis Canada "Play Tennis" Self Rating Guide. World Tennis Number (WTN) may be used later to establish league divisions.

  • BEGINNER (2.5 and below) - I am ready for my first match
  • INTERMEDIATE (3.0 - 3.5) - I have match play experience and can rally consistently
  • ADVANCED (4.0 and above) - I have a reliable, solid game built over years of match play

Players will register separately for each session, before the session registration deadline, in the self-rated division of their choice. Players are welcome to register for as many or as few sessions as they wish and may join the league at the start of any session.

The entry fee is $20 per session. All the league proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick at the end of the season. League entry fees (your donations) are eligible for a tax receipt. For more information on Alzheimer's consult the "ABOUT ALZHEIMER'S" tab.

Players will be organized into groups with 3-5 other players, based on their self-rated skill level, and will arrange matches to play everyone in their group for the session, approximately one match per week.

There are no court fees required to play in the league. TM members can book court time online the usual way. If 2 non-members are arranging a match they can contact Tennis Moncton well in advance, by phone, email or in person, to book a court for a league match for FREE, but outside peak times (Mon-Thu 4pm - 8pm).

Each match will consist of a 10 PROSET (The first player to win 10 games, wins the match. If the score reaches 9 games all, there will be a 7-point tie-break). At the end of each session, match results will determine which players will:

  1. be promoted to a higher group or division;
  2. be relegated to a lower group or division, or
  3. remain in the same group

After each session, groups are adjusted so players play opponents close to their skill level.
